Parent-Child Mooncake Workshop for Mid-Autumn Festival

Grade: K1–K3

Objectives:

This activity aims to teach children the skills of making traditional mooncakes while enhancing interaction and cooperation between parents and children, creating warm and sweet quality family time. Beyond learning practical crafting skills, the activity enables children to experience traditional Chinese culture through hands-on practice, understand the significance and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and cultivate an interest in and respect for traditional heritage. Furthermore, through joint parent-child participation, it encourages positive communication and teamwork skills between parents and children.

Activity Outline:

  1. Explaining Mid-Autumn History & Traditions : Introduce the origins of Mid-Autumn Festival, moon-gazing, and riddle-solving, guiding children to experience the unique charm of traditional culture.
  2. Introducing Mooncake Tools & Ingredients : Explore flour, fillings, and molds through touch and smell, helping children recognize key materials and prepare for hands-on creation.
  3. Hands-on mooncake making : Knead dough, wrap fillings, and press molds to develop fine motor skills, while building a rich sense of achievement through sharing their creations.
