Objectives:
To introduce children to shadow puppetry as a traditional Chinese folk art and help them understand how shadow puppet performances work. To teach children about Fai Chun (spring couplets) as common Chinese New Year decorations and enable them to understand the meanings of the traditional blessings written on them.
Activity Outline:
- Children writing Fai Chun : Children hold writing brushes to unleash their creativity, experiencing the linear beauty of calligraphy through the drafting of dots and lines while writing auspicious blessings by hand to embrace a rich festive atmosphere.
- Children watching a shadow puppet show and manipulating shadow puppets: by enjoying traditional light-and-shadow stories and personally operating the puppet pieces, children not only gain a direct appreciation for the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage but also spark their boundless imagination through interactive play.
