Objectives:
● To help children and parents learn about the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival through craft-making and dumpling wrapping activities.
● To foster children’s understanding of Chinese culture and heritage, and to nurture a sense of belonging to their country.
Workshop Overview:
In celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival, the school hosted a special “Dumpling Fun” parent-child workshop to deepen children’s and families’ appreciation of traditional Chinese festivals.
◇ Craft Activities:
K1 children created miniature hanging decorations shaped like zongzi (rice dumplings).
K2 children made traditional festive ornaments.
K3 children designed lucky dumpling-themed pouches.
◇ Parent-Child Dumpling Wrapping:
The session began with a lively introduction to the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, followed by an interactive quiz to engage the children. A demonstration on how to wrap dumplings was then provided, after which children and parents worked together to wrap their own. Everyone enjoyed the hands-on experience and the joyful atmosphere.
This meaningful workshop offered a valuable opportunity for children and parents to participate together, fostering a deeper connection to Chinese culture through firsthand experience. It successfully sparked the children’s curiosity and interest in traditional festivals.
